The Friends and Founder Members of the John Loughborough School (FFMJLS) is a group of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) and other interested parties who have come together in order to prevent the backhand closure of The John Loughborough School (JLS), protect its Seventh-day ethos, education and general well being of all its students.
The FFMJLS is a fully legalised body and came into being because of the secretive and undemocratic way the President of the South England Conference (SEC) has, in spite of the advice given to him by the Education Director of the British Union Conference (BUC), past Presidents of that body and the Governors of The John Loughborough School handed over the JLS into the control of the Haringey Council on 16th January 2008.
Contrary to some rumours, the FFMJLS does not seek to harm the Church but long to see it as God intends it to be, a church filled with love, compassion, justice and fairness for all.
Most of the FFMJLS Seventh-day Adventists members are church leaders, and all its members are in good and regular standing in their individual churches.
The FFMJLS is most concerned that a newly elected President within weeks of his election could without consultation with the body of the Church and without a mandate from it, make such a rash decision about a school in which all Seventh-day Adventists are interested.
The FFMJLS though strongly opposed to the President’s undemocratic stance does not have any negative feelings against him or those who support him as we are all brethren, but are appalled that our SEC leader in order to bring about a desired end could exercise his authority in such an ungodly manner toward a sister of his church, the former headteacher of our school, one well loved by parents and students alike.
Our objective as a body is to take back the control of The John Loughborough School from the Haringey Council:
· To have the former headteacher of The John Loughborough Seventh-day School, who has been unfairly and badly treated by the South England Conference and Haringey Council reinstated.
· To help ensure that teachers employed are capable of teaching and inspiring our children to achieve their fullest potential spiritually and physically.
· To help our church members realise that they cannot be children of God whilst ignoring injustice and unfairness.
· To help our leaders realise that they are not our masters, but as the Lord has demonstrated that they are “our servants” and our expectation of them is to love, show mercy, do good and uphold justice for all.
We want to again stress to all our readers that the FFMJLS is not a revolutionary body. We love our Church and want to see practised the things that the Bible teaches and we are not prepared to keep quiet whilst our leaders continue to do things unjustly.
The Friends and Founder Members strive to retain the Christian ethos of the School. That was the objective of its founders. The objective still exists with its genuine supporters and will continue by God’s grace, while we seek to restore its Seventh-day Adventist Christian ethos at The John Loughborough School.
